MENA to host Iranian-Afghan ‘Elephantbird’

Iranian-Afghan ‘Elephantbird’ is to vie at the MENA Film Festival in Canada.

Iranian-Afghan short flick ‘Elephantbird’ has been slated to take part in the MENA - Middle East & North Africa Film Festival in Canada.

Directed by Amir-Masoud Soheili, the 16-minute flick will join the competition at the second edition of the Canadian event.

‘Elephantbird’ is about an old Afghan man whose last wish is to give his elephant-bird (turkey) to his grandchild, but this simple desire is hard to realize.

The man has to travel on a mini-bus to fulfill his wish. All his companions have their own reasons to take this journey.

They use an alternative road to reach their destination on time, but there is still the possibility of getting caught by insurgents.

‘Elephantbird’ has already been screened at a number of international events, including the Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh, the Marcellus Mini Movie Family Film Festival in the US and the Brno 16 International Short Film Festival in the Czech Republic.

According to the official website of the MENA, it “aims to provide a stage for emerging artists and new voices to share their works, open a space for dialogue and celebrate our place in the Canadian media landscape”.

This year’s edition of the event will be held online on November 20-27.
